Specialty Services

PEAK Sport and Spine is the first choice of patients and physicians for physical therapy in the Midwest due to specialized expert clinicians. We advance the practice of physical therapy through a comprehensive examination of treatment methodologies in order to provide patients with the most efficient and cutting edge techniques available in a caring manner to eliminate their core problem.

Specialty Services We Offer

Core Stabilization Program

This program will introduce the foundations of core stabilization and is designed to help patients improve the central ‘core’ muscles of the body. Successful application of this program will help patients to minimize the risk of injury, lessen pain, and improve function. These gains will occur with improved strength, posture, and mobility. Core stability is improved by consistently performing exercises designed to increase the power of muscle movement resulting in more efficient and coordinated mobility. The physical therapist will provide instruction to ensure each patient performs the program safely and effectively. The physical therapist will progress the patient through increasingly demanding functional movements while maintaining a neutral, pain-free position of the spine. More advanced goals will be attained by improvements in balance and coordination in a program tailored to the patient’s individual goals.

MLS Laser Therapy

This FDA-cleared, Class IV technology synchronizes dual wavelengths with continuous and pulsed emissions bringing you the most advanced laser therapy system available on the market today. Laser therapy uses light energy to accelerate the body’s natural healing processes.  By using specific wavelengths and a patented delivery system, MLS laser Therapy can speed up the process of reliving inflammation and pain associated with many conditions, including arthritis. The MLS Laser has a unique pain-relieving effect, which can be dramatic.  many patients feel significantly better in just a few treatments. (Offered at our Columbia-Berrywood and Sedalia locations only).

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups made of glass, plastic or rubber on your skin for a few minutes to create suction under the cups. There are many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is performed by a licensed clinician that uses a needle to pierce the skin and release underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of pain and movement impairments. Dry needling is used to treat dysfunctions in skeletal muscle, fascia, and connective tissue, and diminish persistent peripheral nociceptive input, and reduce or restore impairments of body structure and function leading to improved activity and participation. PEAK Sport and Spine is proud to offer dry needling for our patients and clients. Please contact us for more information or discuss this with your current healthcare provider if you feel you would benefit from this technique.

Blood Flow Restriction Therapy (BFR)

If Personalized Blood Flow Restriction (PBFR) training is for you, your therapist can supplement this to your plan of care. This is used primarily for a rapid increase of strength and hypertrophy (increased size of muscle tissue).  Primarly, used when our patients have muscle atrophy due to an inactive period following an injury.  We utilize the PBFR, the approved Personalized Tourniquet System device. Personalized blood flow restriction rehabilitation training (PBFR) is a game-changing injury recovery therapy that is producing dramatically positive results.

Pelvic Health Management Program

This program addresses specific issues of the pelvic region, such as urinary and fecal incontinence, overactive bladder, constipation, pelvic floor prolapse, pelvic pain disorders, and dyspareunia (painful intercourse) as well as pregnancy and postpartum care. A conservative approach is utilized to re-educate and empower patients to regain control of their pelvic floor to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions, pain or embarrassment. Therapists with specialized training, determine the appropriate tools, such as biofeedback, dilators, and bowel and bladder retraining to use along with traditional manual therapy and exercise that will be necessary for you to return to a complete continent and pain-free lifestyle.  (Offered at Mid County, Rolla and Waynesville clinics only).
